  I am appalled by how difficult it is to contact the Edinburgh John Lewis store. I have paid for 2 kitchen appliances. The transaction has met with some minor difficulties that could have been sorted out had I been able to speak by phone to someone from the relevant department, but one abortive attempt in recent weeks actually led to my having to take an expensive taxi to the store (because, when I was eventually connected to the department via a call centre, no-one answered the call). Today I took delivery of both appliances, one of which was installed successfully but the other one had to be returned because it would not fit the space available. I was told a member of staff would call me back to make other arrangements , as indeed they did, but I could not get to my phone in time and they rang off without leaving a message. My attempt to return the call resulted in my hanging on for 16 minutes of mind-numbing music in the hope someone from the call centre would answer. No-one did and I rang off in despair. Looks like I’ll have to take another expensive taxi tomorrow and talk to a real sales person in the store. I am elderly and not in the best of health and all this is causing me considerable stress. I might add that the staff, when I’m able to speak to them are unfailingly helpful and polite. Alma Cullen.

  I was in the John Lewis restaurant for tea and cake today 29/03/2023 from 11am - 1pm. The food service and quality was good. sadly the table cleaning leaves a lot to be desired. £ member of staff each emptied the crumbs and food waste left on the tables onto the floor, not onto a used plate or onto the tray. There was young children there, and automatically they will play on the floor, where there is crumbs, not good. Also when the staff wipe the tables they only spray and clean the tops of the tables not one member of staff cleaned the edges of the tables, which can be wet and sticky. A senior member of staff needs to look into this. At the prices charged that should be a better standard, Hygiene standard needs improving.
