Very disappointed today (7th May). I came in and did a shop and was served by a middle aged lady wearing a mask, considering it’s all about social distancing, she scanned all my items, I was halfway through packing when I had to pay, then instead of waiting for me to finish she started scanning the lady’s shopping who was at the other end of the checkout. We were both horrified as that is not social distancing. ( she was much more interested in the other cashier who was a young lad on the other till 3 tills up and what he was doing) luckily for me the other lady waited while her shopping was being scanned through going on top of mine. I thought I would be quite nice about this and phoned the manager who told me he was Graham and explained what had happened. Instead of being interested and saying he would look into this. He had a very can’t be bothered attitude and basically said she doesn’t normally do that and when I said about the lady behind me didn’t come to the end of checkout so we kept our distance, his reply was “ well the cashier wouldn’t have let her do that” so why on earth did she start scanning her shopping then. He then just basically started mumbling he would speak to her and sorry and bang went the phone. I was a supervisor in a major Tesco’s and I can honestly say if someone had phoned and complained, it was store policy to be polite, apologetic and say we will look into this so it doesn’t happen again. Just short to the point and courteous. I think someone, an area manager etc should go done to Honiton store and do a complete retraining program on how to deal with social distancing and polite helpful customer service. On the plus side I will say the Exeter Iceland store staff are amazing. They are always polite , helpful and even at the start of all this with panic buying there were staff giving advice, rules and if a customer picked up too many of something they were politely saying at till “ I am so sorry you can only have one pack of those” and all the customers were remarking on how well organised and informative the store was. If Exeter wasn’t so far away I would shop there, but I do t think me or the lady behind me will be going back to the Ho it on store. This is a difficult time for everyone and I still do shop work although not in a supermarket at the moment and I can say in my shop it’s all about customer service and being helpful and keeping everyone safe in these uncertain times.

I was disappointed this morning that the young female cashier, served the next customer before I had chance to pack my goods, which flustered me as he was stood next to me shoulder to shoulder. I’d then had left one item behind which he then passed to me.
